This recently discovered photo along with others (coming soon) was saved from destruction by a Detroit Board of Education member and forwarded to Keith Thode ’61 who graciously sent it to us. This is the original picture that was used in the 1962 Galaxy yearbook. Harry Gordon, Class of ’62 writes, ” Yes, the rare photo is from the 1962 Galaxy. I have that yearbook, as well as 1960 and 1961. The picture on the website is of the 11th and 12th graders, which are on pages 110 & 111 of the yearbook. I enlarged the photo on the website and if you look at the right hand side of the photo at the very top where the last row of students are standing you can see a person who looks like a teacher facing southward, not looking up at the camera, as if giving the students instructions. I believe that teacher may have been Ms. Sawicki, who was a counselor…I was on the roof when the picture was taken…”
Thank You Harry for sending us this information.
A much larger picture is located in the Photo Gallery. Can you find yourself?
