The 2006 Henry Ford High School commencement ceremony held June 14th at COBO Arena was a memorable event.  245 seniors had the pleasure of walking across the stage this year. This came about through the efforts of teachers, administrators, and parents pushing us to do well and make it to the end. We the seniors also worked hard pushing each other to make it to the end and not succumb to the negatives that could have enticed us to do bad.

Our keynote speaker this year was none other than Detroit mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick. His speech included a short story about his recent trip to Africa and words of encouragement about how we have the power to help put the world back together. Which was a pretty good speech. The ceremony ended with all of the graduates throwing our caps up into the air and screaming and hugging one another, then we filed out of the arena. After exiting, everyone turned in their gowns and stood in line to get their diplomas.

One thing that makes Henry Ford stand out among other Detroit high schools are the smart and talented students that make up Henry Ford. This year the Henry Ford High School seniors earned more than 1.2 million dollars in scholarships and grants and many seniors are still waiting for decisions to come in the mail. Plus, many seniors were accepted to some of the most elite colleges and universities across the country. Most seniors have pledged to continue their education after high school by going to college, trade school, or enlisting in the military.

Prom night was June 14th. It was held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dearborn, MI. Our prom theme was “A Red Carpet Affair,” class colors were cranberry & cream and our class flower was a red rose. The class motto was “We judge ourselves by what we are capable of doing, while others judge us by what we’ve already done,”(—anonymous). Everyone had a great time.

Also accompanying this article are a host of photos and scans of things I believe the alumni and visitors to the site would enjoy viewing. Including photos of graduation, prom, the new auditorium* and the senior class. In addition, there are scans of the 2006 Galaxy yearbook, HF brochure (loaded with information, including more building improvements), and the graduation ceremony program.

In conclusion, our days at Ford have been filled with many bumps and bruises, but things have leveled out towards the end and we made it through. Our days at Ford are now nothing but memories to cherish for the rest of our lives. We are now known as alumni of Henry Ford. I want wish my entire senior class the best of luck in life and I look forward to seeing many of them including myself become successful people of society.

*Though I took three photos of the auditorium with a Kodak disposable camera, only one came out and it also really is not that good, but you can still see the new seats and carpet and the stage a little (I expected more from out of Kodak).
